You know here at Performance U, creativity is alive and well. Of course, the creativity always comes with a purpose! Today’s video is no exception. . One of my favorite new core training movements is the Body Saw exercise. The Body Saw exercise is not only great for building superior core strength / stability. But, with the added tweak I show you in the video below, the Body Saw becomes one heck of a great shoulder stability exercise as well! . Here’s how you perform the Body Saw exercise, Performance U style! . . .

Give the Body Saw exercise a try and be sure to comment below and tell us what you think!

Also, share some of your personal creative variations of the Body Saw?

    Nick,
I love those exercises. I have a feeling that my clients will not like them, but all my clients know me when I tell them “if you have a choice of two exercises, which one do you do? YOU DO THE HARDER ONE!” Those will go down in my list of unpopular, hard exercises.

Great exercise. In yoga, and in preparation for elbow balance, a standard yoga wooden block will often be place between the hands and lightly squeezed. Then, using variations in palm postions, will cause different and often more intense work into the shoulder/scapular/armpit region. Try palms down, vertical and supinated using the yoga block when performing the saw.

Thank you for your videos…always appreciated.

Nick, you are one of the best teacher/trainers that I’ve found in my 11 years of business. You’re very generous with lessons/exercises like this one. Never over-selling, it shows that you love what you do. I know this move using a TRX, (and love the option to use paper plates!) it rocks the core without the overrated and over-used flexion at the hip and lumbar. Thanks for the inspiration!

Dear Coach Nick, You’ve already whipped me into shape, I lost 17 lbs. since Nov. and am in the best shape of my life at age 62. This looks like a great core exercise. And as of now it’s in my workout. Pretty soon, if Vince Gironda were still around ( one of my old time heros) they’d let me in the same room as him. One thing, unlike Jim’s post, I feel the harder the better. Love making the young whippersnappers look sick. So many folks think when you’re over 40, you’re over the hill. Not so, I’m on the top (or at least gettin’ closer every day) and it’s great. Thanks Coach and Alli too. :)

Nick, today is strength upper body training day for me and I will be including this exercise as a finisher.

I discovered your site through Allie’s blog and have been impressed with everything I read. No doubt you are passionate about what you do. To echo ZB’s sentiments above, thank you for being so generous and sharing your exercises and tips with us.

    Sincerely

    Alexandra

Well, I put the Body Saw in my workout tonight with the first one of your upper body grand rounds (?) rowing, shrugs, hang cleans, etc. Sorry Coach Nick, I don’t think I like you anymore. lol. But then it’s not your job to be liked is it. Best Regards, all kidding aside. Thanks Coach, gene
