As you learned in my TRUTH About the Bench Press post with Coach Juan Carlos Santana – Bench Press performance most likely does not carryover well into the Standing Pushing actions involved in life and sport.

The idea is not to stop doing the bench press. It’s about doing the bench press along with other exercises, which likely have a higher potential of transferring into standing pushing actions.

  1. Great post, one adjustment we’ve made for comfort and to force external rotation stability vs. internal rotation stability is to put the cable between the arm and the body.

Awesome Nick. I use the SA Cable Chest Press all the time with my clients, but not like this. It’s amazing how a couple of joint angle tweeks completely changes the exercise. *slaps forehead* Why didn’t I think to do this!? I’ll definitely be putting the “Performance U version” to use in order to crank out some heavier reps with my clients. Thanks!

    Thanks, Lauren!

I’m so glad you found as much success using these tweaks as we have :-)

    Dr.John,

    Thanks for sharing your insights!

I’ve found some clients like your version as well!

It’s all about fitting the exercise to YOUR clients and NOT the other way around :-)

Best of luck with your continued success!
