As a strength coach who works with high level athletes and an educator who trains the trainers &#8211; I&#8217;m always being asked what I think is the biggest mistake trainers, athletes and exercise enthusiasts make in the gym. My answer is always &#8220;most don&#8217;t&#8217; train the CNS&#8221;. You see &#8211; there are actually two ways to get stronger and improve performance. One way is physiological based which is done by putting on muscle size (hypertrophy) through typical <a id="KonaLink0" style="color: #ee2d24 !important; text-decoration: underline !important; cursor: pointer; font-family: verdana; background-image: none !important; background-repeat: initial !important; background-attachment: initial !important; -webkit-background-clip: initial !important; -webkit-background-origin: initial !important; background-color: transparent !important; text-transform: none !important; display: inline !important; font-variant: normal; top: 0px; right: 0px; bottom: 0px; left: 0px; position: static; background-position: initial initial !important; padding: 0px !important; margin: 0px; border: 0px !important none !important transparent !important;" href="http://blogs.muscleandfitness.com/guest_blogger/#" target="undefined"><span style="color: #ee2d24 !important; font-weight: normal; font-size: 13px; position: static;"><span style="border-top-width: 0px !important; border-top-style: none !important; border-top-color: initial !important; border-left-width: 0px !important; border-left-style: none !important; border-left-color: initial !important; border-right-width: 0px !important; border-right-style: none !important; border-right-color: initial !important; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: #ee2d24; padding-top: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; padding-bottom: 1px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; color: #ee2d24 !important; background-image: none; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; -webkit-background-clip: initial; -webkit-background-origin: initial; background-color: transparent; width: auto !important; float: none !important; display: inline !important; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: normal; font-size: 13px; position: static; white-space: nowrap; background-position: initial initial;">bodybuilding</span></span></a> style protocols? The other, lesser known, but possibly more important way of getting stronger is through neural based training. This is accomplished by using faster, more explosive exercise protocols like the ones I&#8217;m going provide later in this article.
